摘要:
Populus species and their hybrids are favoured for emerging applications in bioproducts, carbon sequestration and environmental remediation, not to mention fascinating trees from a basic biological perspective. Gene flow is an important evolutionary process within and among Populus species, due to long-distance wind dispersal of both pollen and seed, teamed with limited reproductive barriers. Through the course of this talk, the speaker will present their efforts to quantify inter- and intraspecific gene flow in several Populus species across North America, using high-throughput SNP based approaches teamed with large sample sizes. Ultimately the successful migration of Populus genes to new genomic backgrounds and environmental contexts appears to be contingent on a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms. The implications of these findings for applied problems and policy decisions (spread of exotic species, escape of crop genes into the wild, potential impacts of genetically-modified organisms) will be highlighted.

Stacy Lee Thompson,博士毕业于加拿大 University of British Columbia 大学,现任瑞典Umea University 大学助理教授,主要从事林木群体遗传和基因组学研究,曾利用基因组水平 SNP 标记开展北美杨树的基因交流研究,开展基于 NGS 测序的欧洲挪威云杉适应性地理变异研究,参与挪威云杉全基因组测序工作。研究论文发表在 Nature, Molecular Evolution, Evolution, Heredity, Tree Genetics & Genomics 等知名杂志。
